Chapter Excerpt: The Unknown Call for Help

It was around 2 am when the cell phone began vibrating. The room was dark. Her cell phone was charging on the bedside table. The phone vibrating produced enough light for her to see the words "Unknown Caller." Usually, she ignores these types of calls. If she doesn't ignore the call, she will hit the "F - U" button so she isn't bothered. This time, she didn't do either. Instead, she felt an overwhelming sense of sadness and dread. She intuitively knew she must answer the unknown call.

So, she answered.

She could hear the commotion in the background, which sounded like the caller was outside. She said in her quiet, raspy, sleepy voice, "Hello." The caller responded, is this Elizabeth? She replied, "Yes." The caller said, "I am sorry to bother you so late. I got your number from a friend of mine who is a detective in Chicago. He said you helped and assisted on one of his cases of a missing girl. I wonder if I can ask for your assistance. This is an emergency; we must locate a missing girl last seen by the river."

Elizabeth sat up, rubbed her eyes, and deeply breathed. Did she want to go down this road again? Would things turn out differently this time? She found herself in turmoil as she answered the unknown call for help.
