Chapter Excerpt: The Secret Games in the Staircase

She was a gifted psychic medium since she was six years old. Little did her family know that their home attic was her place of peace and spirit connection. The staircase was her safe space, bringing her much joy and comfort in her solitude. She was able to escape and be away from all the trauma she was experiencing in her mind and physical world as a young child.

She was loved and accepted by her Spirit family.

As she entered the staircase, her "ghostly" family, which her family coined as "imaginary friends," would await her arrival. She knew these were not imaginary friends, at least not to her. She ascended the stairs through the hidden front entrance of their family home by using the hidden vintage skeleton key in the porch room dresser. Her Nana hid the key, but she knew better where to find it.

As she slowly and quietly unlocked the black wood door that led up to the attic, she could hear the laughter coming from upstairs. Her ghostly siblings would shush and whisper, "Here she comes." Ricky was the first one to peek around the top of the staircase and greet her. Ricky was only a year older than her. He would ask, "What do you want to play today? Her reply was, "Our favorite game, of course, ball and jacks!" They all would giggle.

Little did her Nana know, she was playing with ghosts. For if her Nana WERE to know, she would most likely grab her off the stairs and rush her off to church to get cleansed and purged for a good old-fashioned Italian Catholic "exorcism."
